NORTH LEINSTER LEAGUE

ST OLIVERS 1-1 SKERRIES:

St Olivers played most of the football in the opening round of the North Leinster league, however a late equaliser from skerries saw the Dublin school salvage a point from the game. There were notable performances throughout the Ollies team with goalkeeper Vasyl Chekansky and defenders Conor Tully and Caolite Hickey coming to the fore.

ST OLIVERS 1-0 LAYTOWN:

Similarly to the skerries match the Ollies played most of the football in this tie but needed a Craig Curran goal fifteen minutes from time to secure the points. The starting line-up was the same as the last day with one positional change, Neil Donnelly switching roles with Andrew Tully. Our lads started the game slowly with Jamie McQuillan missing a penalty ten minutes in. However as the game went on our lads started to create some chances with Jamie McQuillan; eager to atone for his earlier miss, pulling the strings in the middle. Mr Nolan made several changes in search of the winner; with Brandon Lynch, Sidwell Jiya and Robert Guinn replacing Aaron Kierans, Sean Doyle and Bernard Thompson. However it was last week's goalscoring hero Craig Curran who finished of a well worked move to secure the win for the Ollies. Best for the Ollies on the day were Jamie Mc Quiilan, Craig Curran and Neil Donnelly.

PLAY-OFF ST OLIVERS 3-2 LAYTOWN

With St Mary's unable to fulfill the last fixture in the group, St Olivers had to play Laytown once again to book a semi-final spot. Laytown started well, attacking from the start and tested goalkeeper Vasyl Chekansky on several occasions. However the Ollies netminder pulled off some fantastic saves. Having dominated the early stages Laytown then took the lead, but the concession of the goal seemed to awaken our lads and they began to apply some pressure of their own.

Aaron Kierans enjoying his new role in central midfield took full advantage during the Ollies purple patch by scoring a well deserved hat-trick. Laytown stormed back in the second half attacking down the flanks, but had several attacks thwarted by makeshift centre-half Sidwell Jiya who proved his defensive capabilties with a towering performance. Laytown pulled a goal back late on, but our lads hung on and will now meet Dunshaughlin in the semi-final.

SEMI-FINAL DUNSHAUGHLIN 6-0 ST OLIVERS

Our lads were up against it from the start of this encounter missing a couple of regulars and starting the game against a strong wind and glaring sun. Dunshaughlin pushed all into attack in the opening quarter, and were three up by half time. Credit must be given to our lads as they did not give up and continued attacking. Defensive duo Conor Tully and Sidwell Jiya along with brave goalkeeping from Vasyl Chekansky, kept Ollies in the game. Emmanuel Dos Santos and Robert Guinn worked hard to manufacture attacking opportunities and came close on a couple of occasions. However, fatigue became a factor in the final quarter and Dunshaughlin scored three more on the break to make it 6-0. It was a disappointing end to a good campaign for this year's side, but there were notable performances throughout the year that suggest there will be more to come from this group of players.
